  COACHING - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

COACHING VS COUNSELING

Coaching is not therapy, counseling, advice-giving, mental healthcare, or treatment for substance abuse. The coach does not function as a licensed mental health professional, and coaching is not intended as a replacement for counseling, psychiatric interventions, treatment for mental illness, or past abuse issues. Counseling delves into the past of an individual, to help make the present better. On the other hand, coaching looks at present, to improve the future.

Coaching is for people who are basically well adjusted, emotionally healthy, functioning effectively, and wanting to make changes in their lives.  Coaching is designed to address issues the person being coached would like to consider. These could include (but are not limited to) career development, relationship enhancement, spiritual and life purpose  Many people use coaching to work through grief, trauma, anger, conflicts, divorce, stress, wellness, spiritual issues, low self-esteem, past hurts, marriage, career, abuse, domestic violence and many other issues.

WHY COACHING

What can coaching do for me?

Coaching can help you get relief and resolution to issues that have been bothering you. No longer will you have to lie in bed tossing and turning at night as you worry about what to do. You will no longer be in this by yourself. You will have a highly qualified and experienced coach who will listen to your issues objectively and help you make sense of the mess and achieve your goals. Most people say they wish they had gotten coaching years ago.

How does coaching work?

Sign up for a free sample session. This gives us both the opportunity to see how well we work together and allows you to determine if coaching is right for you. If you decide to continue, we will either meet at my office for one hour, or, as in most cases, we will have one sixty minute session on the phone three times a month.

It's Life Coaching especially for Caregivers.

One of the major issues for most caregivers is isolation, and often, it can be a lonely solitary struggle to get thru each day caring for a family member who needs constant care.    I’ve found personally, support groups are great connecting with others who are in your shoes.   You can identify with other caregivers, and share experiences, and give each other feedback and possible solutions to common problems.   On the downside, each support group generally has its own meeting schedule, and many  only meet once a month.  So, if you should have a mini melt-down, or just need to share with someone who understands what you are going through, what do you do between meetings?

A caregiver life coach helps you to get a strategy  to get from where you are in your life now, to where both you and your loved one can have a win/win situation,  and weed out the stuff that isn't working.

With caregiver coaching, you can  have a knowledgeable and understanding person who you can turn to whenever you need or want advice or informed feedback by phone or email. A caregiver coach can give you a calm, objective view on your most pressing issues and circumstances, and even a structured plan for improving it.

How does the Coach accomplish this?

  • The coach helps the client to set both short and long term goals, sets action plans, monitors progress in goal attainment, and develops strategies to utilize the clients strengths most effectively. All of these together maximize the clients potential to achieve desired outcomes.

  • The first step in the caregiver coaching process is to have the client fill out assessment forms.

  • Based on these results, the coach and client work together to develop goals.

  • Reaching these goals is accomplished one small positive step at a time

Where does the Coaching take place?

Coaching is done over the telephone with email followups as needed. This gives you the advantage of coaching from the convenience of your home, office, or wherever you happen to find yourself. In fact, many of my clients are from out of state.

Is the coach/client relationship confidential?

Both coach and client develop a written agreement of mutual understanding of the coaching/client relationship.  The coaching process can focus on areas of lifestyle management, growth, life balance, decision-making, and achieving short-term or long-term goals
