EMPOWERMENT:  Are you managing your life - or is your life managing you?
I've found one of the best ways to feel empowered with the frustrations and challenges of caregiving  is to learn how balance the needs of your loved one and your self-care.
 
INSPIRATION:   Have you ever had "one of those days" where everything that could go wrong did and then some.  I've found a good way to be prepared is to expect the unexpected and make a list of things that inspire me and lift my spirit, then I'm  able to switch reels and get back on track without it ruining my day.  Try it and let me know what you think.
 
TRANSITION:  Maybe your transition in becoming a caregiver was like mine, in that it happened lightning fast and i was left overwhelmed and uncertain as to what to do next.  But with resources and support, I was able to pull everything together and cope with the situation at hand - but I can assure you it wasn't easy.

MY SHARING CORNER:  

In the past I've mentioned in my blog about laughter and music therapy for health and wellness.  They are  not only proven benefits for the person you may be caring for, but also for the caregiver and just folks in general. 

 

How do I know?   I lead a sing-a-long group, and I've earned the nickname Karaoke Glo!!

Although my singing is not American Idol level by any means, but as karaoke leader at the wellness class, everybody joins in -  on tune, off tune or no tune and we have a great time.  Try it - you just might like it.

Spiritual wellness

is a process of understanding beliefs, values, and ethics that help guide your life.  Whatever your preferred approach, spending time asking and exploring your spiritual life can be an important part to your overall wellbeing.

 

 

Emotional Wellness

involves maintaining a healthy emotional life is important to overall health.  Some ways to stay emotionally healthy are to manage your stress level, stay on top of work, get eight hours of sleep, ask for professional help.

 

Intellectual wellness

means staying curious and engaged in learning new things.  Engaged in creative activities.  Read for pleasure be aware of social and political issues or join a club that focuses on enhancing intellectual interests.

 

Physical wellness

involves moving your body (exercise), eating well balanced meals (nutrition), sleeping, managing stress, receiving preventative medical and dental care, and getting other medical screenings.

 

Social Wellness

involves having a strong social network can give you support and guidance when you are stressed or need stress relief.  Additionally these relationships can aid in the development of healthy relationships.

 

Environmental wellness

means taking care of your global environment and your personal surroundings.  De-cluttering your home, recycling your trash or volunteering to clean up your environment can improve health for all.

 

Financial Wellness

means taking steps to live within your financial means and living in and planning for future financial health.  You can do this by planning financially, creating a budget and learning to be a good consumer
